“Alexa – Can you turn off the lights please?" I command her as I was writing above words. Alexa has reminded me to be specific on my demand before she executes the command...!! They have still not figured out how to perfectly understand the "Indian” dialect yet.
Meanwhile, my fitness watch is vibrating and asking me to do stretching, reminding me that I have been seating too long at my desk. Seating is the new normal, right? “Please turn off the lights in the drawing room” I request “Alexa” again with unnecessary politeness.
Semi-autonomous or Autonomous machines (The Millennials call them “Bots”) have invaded our lives in a big way – some may say. This imagined time travelling asteroid is bent on assassinating whoever comes in its way. The rise of the Machines!! While Others, with open arms, see this automation of our lives less like an invasion & more as an evolutionary leap forward. They like these machines/Bots that function independently and are practically friendly.
Hence, the question – do human personality straits influence the regard people have for these Artificial Intelligence (AI) and bots?
While there is no specific way to categorize specifically, Personality theory gives us broad hints on this. We can talk about a personality type’s general tendencies while understanding that any individual within the group may be an exception to those tendencies.
Below example of one of the human personality type - “Analysts” highlights the impacts of human personalities on AI and Bots :
Analysts: Creators and Detractors
Analyst personality types: Architects (INTJ), Logicians (INTP), Commanders (ENTJ), Debaters (ENTP)
Just when you think this group of systems-loving rationalists – probably highly represented in robotics and AI – are more than likely to be champions of machines that “think” for themselves, along come the likes of “Elon Musk” and the late “Stephen Hawking”. Both these alpha Analysts predicted terrible things for society if we do not rein in AI.
The first thought about Analysts being technology rationalists is still a primary definer. A sizable chunk of Analysts is likely to be fascinated with the systems, computer science, engineering & technology that are part of the AI and robots’ world. Many Analysts carry an invisible banner that says, “Tweak it until it’s better.”
Your thoughts and comments on how other personality traits influence or impact the Bots:
Other three major personality traits after “Analyst” are:
1) Diplomats - Advocates (INFJ), Mediators (INFP), Protagonists (ENFJ), Campaigners (ENFP)
2) Sentinels - Logisticians (ISTJ), Defenders (ISFJ), Executives (ESTJ), Consuls (ESFJ)
3) Explorers - Virtuosos (ISTP), Adventurers (ISFP), Entrepreneurs (ESTP), Entertainers (ESFP)
